Types of Lens Coatings and Options!

Hello Everyone,

It has come to our attention that we need to make our customers aware of the "Types of Coatings and Options" that are available in the Optical Industry! Some terminology changes depending on whom you are talking with! - If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us either via phone or email! Thank you!

Non-Coated Lenses -

This is the standard lens type that allot of Optical stores and Optometrist use! This means that the lenses literally have no coating on them what so ever. They are the cheapest option available and sadly they are used across allot of places within the industry.

Hard/Anti-Scratch Coating -

This is an option that is available for all lenses! This only costs a dollar or two extra and gives protection against general wear and tear from dust, dirt and cleaning. This can protect against minor scratchs. We offer this option as standard on all our lenses.

 Anti-Reflective/Multi-Coating -

This coating cuts out reflective light! Ideal for those that work under artificial light, infront of computers and drive at night. This coating is usually the last coating to be applied to the lens. It is imperative that you look after your lenses if they have this coating on it as Hard/Anti-Scratch coating is applied first, therefore it is underneath this coating. $30.00 for this coating to be applied to your lenses.

BlueEast Coating -

This coating cuts out reflective light and blue light which is omitted from digital devices! Ideal for those that work with their phones, watch t.v and use tablets. As it is cuts out reflective light aswell, it is ideal for those that work under artifical light, and in front of computers also. $60.00 for this coating to be applied to your lenses.

Transition Coating -

This coating reacts in the sun-light giving the wearer protection from sunlight. It clears up once the wearer is back inside. $80.00 for this coating to be applied to your lenses.

Dye Tint

This is a sun-glass option. It is the cheapest option available and cuts out sunlight. This option is used for graduated style tints. Available in most colours. $30.00 for this option to be added to your lenses.

Polarised Option

This is the best sun-glass option available. It is a solid tint which cuts out reflective light. Available is Grey, Brown or Rayban's G15 colour. $80.00 for this option to be added to your lenses.

Mirror Coating

This mirror type coating is usually applied ontop of either a Dye Tinted Lens or a Polarised Lens it makes the lenses have a mirror finish to them, hiding the wearers eyes and adding extra protection against reflective light. Both a cosmetic and useful option. Available in most colours. $60.00 for this option to be added to your lenses.

High Index Material -

This material is used to reduce the thickness and weight of lenses if our customer has a high prescription. This option can vary in price depending on your prescription requirements. $50.00 - $150.00 for this option to be used in your lenses.
